Lakewood Baptist Church—St. Mary’s,
Georgia
Lakewood Baptist is a growing church plant on the
Golden Isles of South East Georgia near Brunswick (the home of Brunswick
Stew). Located on 5 acres, a beautiful facility rests nestled 'neth the
Georgia Pines. Missionary/Pastor Mark Thornton, his wife Mona and 3
children, Brandon, Jacob, and Courtney are faithfully serving the Lord and
reaching out to the people of St. Mary’s. The church congregation has a
great spirit and a great desire to influence the community for Christ.
Hillcrest has sponsored the work from its inception since 2002. Lakewood
plans to organize (be self-supporting) in the summer of 2011.

Olympic Bible Projects—Summer and
Winter Olympic Games
The Olympic Bible Project is a unique ministry which distributes bibles,
tracts, bible studies and Olympic Witness Pins during the Summer and Winter
Olympic Games. Volunteers come from several nations and all around the
United States to help in the project. Hillcrest has sponsored the project
since 1996 and since that time over half a million bibles have been
distributed in over 20 different languages. In 1995, David Hardin joined
Hillcrest and participated in its first OBP in 1996 in Atlanta & has been
involved in each of the following Projects. In 2005, he became our Director
of Promotion for the OBP and has traveled extensively informing churches of
their opportunities to contribute and participate. By invitation, David is
available and willing to come to you and share the vision of this ministry.
David was married to Toni Kenny in 2009 and she greatly assists him in this
important project.

Brant Lane—Builder; Macedonian Missionary Service
Brant and Michelle have been members of Hillcrest Baptist Church for over 10
years. In 2004, Brant surrendered to the gospel ministry. Prior to that he
was a partner in a construction business here in Atlanta and graduated from
Georgia Southern University with a Bachelors Degree in Building,
Contracting, and Construction. Being led of the Lord to continue with his
God given skills, Brant jumped at the chance to team up with the well known
and greatly used Macedonian Missionary Service. Brant is not only ready to
build for the Lord, but is prepared to minister to churches through teaching
and preaching. He graduated from Liberty University in 2010 with his Masters
Degree in Theology. Brant, Michelle, Aubrey, Alex and Austin are greatly
loved at Hillcrest and we have sponsored their family since 2006. Brant is
willing to assist your mission or church in anyway possible.

Mike Maxwell—Remote Island Ministries; Philippines
Remote Island Ministries is reaching people “On the Edge” in the remote
islands of the South Pacific. It is a ministry begun by Missionary Glen
Knight, sponsored by the Victory MBC in North Little Rock, Arkansas. After
making several short-term trips to the Philippines to assist Bro. Glen, the
Lord impressed upon the heart of Bro. Mike Maxwell to ‘come along side’ the
work and help in a more vital and permanent way. Simply put, while Glen
Knight is in the States, Mike Maxwell is in the Philippines assisting the
work. When Glen is in the Philippines, Mike is at home at Hillcrest where he
serves as Assistant Pastor and Missions Coordinator. In 1994, he and his
wife Angela, daughter Emily and son Justin became some of the first members
of Hillcrest Baptist Church and all continue to contribute greatly to the
ministry in their home church. Hillcrest has sponsored Mike’s ministry in
partnership with Remote Island Ministries since 2006.

Kevin Smith—Haiti
Kevin joined Hillcrest in 2006 and is a faithful member. He is a former race
car driver and travels (with his race-car) to churches, camps, and various
meetings sharing Christ with all who will listen. He uses his Auto and the
Racing Flags to give a wonderful and clear presentation of the Gospel. Kevin
also has a heart for missions. He has traveled extensively to South America
and Central America on behalf of missions. His friends and travels (and the
Lord) led him to a wonderful opportunity on the island of Lagonave, in
Haiti. There he found a church, a school and a people who were not looking
for a hand out, but a helping-hand. The church has embraced the Doctrinal
Statement of the ABA & desires that fellowship, and calls itself Hillcrest
Baptist Church! The “Create-a-Miracle Foundation” helps anyone who wants to
sponsor a child with clothes, food and school supplies. Hillcrest endorsed
Kevin as the Liaison and Facilitator of the School in 2009 and plans to help
in the organization efforts of the church.

Jesus the Redeemer Baptist Mission —
a Pilipino bi-lingual congregation meeting at Hillcrest Baptist Church
This work is very dear to the heart of our Pastor and simply came about by
our Pastor and wife moving into their new home and getting acquainted with
new neighbors. As it turned out, a small group of people were meeting in
their neighbor’s home to study the bible and teach English to their ethnic
people group. Our Pastor gave them a welcome to use our church facility, a
loving heart (and our ABA literature) and put the rest in the hands of God.
As a result, they liked what they saw and by their own volition adopted our
ABA doctrinal statement and have desired to be a participating church in the
ABA—Praise the Lord! Following their decision, in May of 2009, Hillcrest
voted to sponsor the mission and assist them in anyway possible.

Jay Ross—Brazil
Hillcrest voted to sponsor Jay and Peggy Ross in November, 2009. Our Pastor
has known Jay and Peggy, and the Ross and Wheeler families most of his life.
Both Jay and Peggy grew up as missionaries’ kids and spent much of their
childhood years in Brazil. They are both fluent in English and Portuguese
and God has given them a great burden to go back to Brazil to minister to
the people. In 2010, their plans are to go to Brazil and begin a mission
church, eventually start a seminary to train national pastors, and work with
the Orphanage “Brazil’s Child.” We are thrilled and excited at the
possibilities that the Lord has in store in Brazil. Their married children
will be assisting them in the work.

Jack Slay—Landmark Baptist Encampment, Macon, Georgia
Jack and Lynn Slay were married at Hillcrest in 2003 and have served the
Lord faithful in youth ministries & in the Adult choir. For three of those
years, they moved to South Georgia to assist Bro. Mark Thornton in the
establishment of Lakewood Baptist Church. In January, 2010 the Lord opened
the door for them to serve as Camp Managers for Landmark Baptist Camp “The
Branch” near Macon, Georgia. Jack is a great ‘handyman’ and has the skills
and contacts necessary to make a huge impact on the campgrounds and the
youth of our churches in Georgia. Hillcrest Baptist Church endorsed his
ministry on January 27, 2010.

Paul Lamb—Mission Builder
Paul and Greta Lamb joined Hillcrest in 2000 and have been a wonderful
example of humble service to the Lord. Both are active in many different
aspects of ministry in their church. Paul is a very skilled carpenter and
has participated in building projects in Georgia, Mississippi, New Mexico,
Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and in Belize in Central America. Paul has a
great desire and willingness to help missions and churches. Paul has his own
business and is always ‘ready to go’ and use his God given skills for the
honor and glory of the Lord. Hillcrest endorsed his ministry on January 27,
2010.
